Position Announcement The Department of Biology at Utah Valley University invites applications for a lecturer position to begin in August 2026. We seek an outstanding candidate with a background in teaching introductory biology.
The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching utilizing engaging, data-driven pedagogies. Teaching responsibilities for this position include: BIOL 1010 General Biology, BIOL 1610 College Biology I. Additionally, candidates may be asked to teach other courses as needed by the department and may develop new courses within their area of expertise. Applicants with experience and interest in teaching hybrid and/or online instruction are especially encouraged to apply.
In addition, the candidate should demonstrate past experience with scientific research. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to engage in professional development, collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to promote the university's mission and values.

Summary of Responsibilities
Design, prepare, and teach courses with meaningful and engaging methods and measurable course objectives.
Teach, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in a classroom setting via demonstrations, discussions, experiential learning activities, and visual aids.
Provide evaluation of learning through written and performance tests.
Hold regular office hours and maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctorate degree in a field related to the coursework being taught, or a master’s degree plus two years of related experience. Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level is required.
ABD applications will be considered if master’s or doctoral verification is received by August 1, 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of active learning pedagogies and an established record of incorporating those techniques in the classroom (especially in introductory biology for majors and/or non-majors).

Example lesson plan addressing the learning outcome of scientific literacy and citizenship to issues of today. The applicant may choose the subject matter. Outline the schedule for a 50-75 minute class period, implementing active learning strategies. Include annotations for why each component of the lesson plan is included and evidence supporting its effectiveness in teaching.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Experience and/or training in engaging and welcoming teaching practices
Demonstrable knowledge of biology and research methods in this field
Experience with evidence-based pedagogy (e.g., active-learning techniques) and instructional technology
Record of curriculum development, effective verbal and written communication, and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
