Dr. Zheng's lab works on problems at the interface of statistical, biological, and biomedical sciences. The lab has developed methods to decipher gene cis-regulatory mechanisms from transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and three-dimensional (3D) chromatin interaction perspectives. We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic, hybrid, and highly collaborative lab.

This statistical genomics postdoctoral fellow will leverage single-cell and bulk-cell multi-omics data to reveal cancer-specific mechanisms underlying differential treatment efficacies and toxicities across patients. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to biologically and clinically important, methodologically challenging problems by developing innovative statistical models and computational methods. Extensive training in grant writing, focusing on early career development grants such as the K99 and Damon Runyon awards, is provided.

Learning Objectives

Statistical modeling and computational pipeline development:

Process raw sequencing data and perform quality control analysis.

Conduct standard data analysis following the computational pipeline.

Perform customized preliminary data analysis as needed.

Develop new statistical models, utilize and customize modern machine learning algorithms, and create computational tools or pipelines to analyze data for specific scientific questions.

Draft manuscripts and contribute to grant preparation.

Present research at weekly meetings and conferences.

Grant and lab management:

Prepare grant applications suitable for postdoctoral researchers.

Assist and support the PI in research and pipeline maintenance.

Train students and new lab members in research procedures and computational resources.

Collaborate with and support other lab members on ongoing projects.

Eligibility Requirements Applicants should hold a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.

Solid training in Statistics:

Courses or research experience in statistical inference, mathematical statistics, linear regression, etc.

Strong computational skills:

Proficiency in R, Python, and Shell scripting; experience with high-performance computing environments.

Experience processing and analyzing bulk and single-cell genomic data.

Ability to develop computational tools, such as R packages, Python modules, web applications, and pipelines.

Ability to conduct organized and reproducible research.

Communication and collaboration skills:

Strong written and verbal communication abilities, and experience working collaboratively.
