Job Summary:

Fulfill the New England Deaconess Association mission by providing spiritual care to residents of The Gardens and Newbury Court and their families on an ecumenical and interfaith basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Spiritual Care: Complete ongoing spiritual assessments of residents in your care, detailing spiritual tradition, relevant family/life history, and desire to receive ongoing chaplaincy support.

Collaborate with members of a multidisciplinary care team to provide spiritual care to residents and families of all religions and cultures; care may include 1-on-1 visitation on- or off-site, leadership of support groups, and end-of-life spiritual care.

Provide community bereavement care to residents, family members, and staff in campus focus areas listed above, in coordination with the Director of Spiritual Life.

On-Call Spiritual Care: Provide two nights/week coverage of on-call campus-wide coverage for the Department.

Programming/Other: Develop and lead one “Connecting Conversations” group in The Gardens each week; lead additional programming in response to community needs and in consultation with Director of Spiritual Life; assist in facilitation of a monthly Memory Caregivers Support Group.

Attend least one day of AM/PM weekly Gardens team huddles; attend care plans meetings as appropriate.

Serve as a point of contact for area clergy and funeral home staff as it relates to care of the residents in your care.

Perform additional job duties as assigned and directed.

Worship-Related and Other Observances: Plan for and conduct our in-person Ecumenical Christian Worship Service at 11am one Sunday a month; facilitate other special services and observances.

Qualifications

Master of Divinity degree from an accredited seminary, divinity school or school of theology.

Minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE); 2+ units preferred.

Ordination by denominational or ecclesiastical body strongly preferred.

Certification from the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or equivalent certifying body strongly preferred.

A minimum of two years of general pastoral care.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft suite.

Demonstrate strong skills in communication, organization, time management, self-motivation, and spiritual assessments.

Candidates must have their own vehicle.
