Position Overview
PT Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) – Bernalillo, NM – Part‑time 24 hrs weekly.
The LADAC provides professional substance use counseling and support services to incarcerated individuals within a correctional healthcare environment. The role focuses on assessment, treatment planning, group and individual counseling, relapse prevention, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare and custody team.
Essential Duties
Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments and screenings in accordance with state licensure requirements.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans addressing substance use disorders, co‑occurring mental health issues, and criminogenic needs.
Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions using evidence‑based practices (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, relapse prevention).
Provide education on substance use, recovery coping skills, and community resources.
Document all clinical interactions, assessments, and progress notes accurately and in compliance with correctional healthcare standards, HIPAA, and state requirements.
Collaborate with medical, mental health, and custody staff to coordinate comprehensive care and support continuity of care and discharge planning.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and staff training.
Maintain professional boundaries, uphold ethical standards, and respond to emergencies, crises, and acute behavioral health needs as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Current state licensure as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) or equivalent credential.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience in substance use disorder treatment required; correctional or forensic experience strongly preferred.
Experience with evidence‑based practices for substance use disorders.
Competencies
Clear verbal and written communication with coworkers, supervisors, jail administration, and patients.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to use computer and site‑specific software.
Ability to respect dignity and confidentiality of inmates and protect health records per HIPAA.
Willingness to assist coworkers, work overtime if required, and maintain confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records.
Employment Requirements
Maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
Current TB test taken within one year.
Adhere to all facility policies and procedures and employee handbook.
Undergo security training and orientation on facility safety policies.
Must pass background check and pre‑employment drug test as applicable.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to remain stationary and move throughout the facility, including up/down flights of stairs.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stay calm in stressful, demanding situations.
Ability to convey and discern information; frequent communication with patients.
Work Environment
Correctional facility – exposure to bloodborne pathogens and inmate risk; must follow security rules and regulations.
