A student assistant works in a department of the college or district site with job responsibilities designed for a student as non-classified job responsibilities. Student Assistants perform duties ranging from unskilled to skilled and may involve clerical, manual labor, and public contact tasks. Assignments have limited discretion and judgment and are typically reviewed with detailed instructions. Assignments consider class timings and exams and are more flexible than off-campus jobs. Students may choose assignments aligning with their academic and career goals as available; duties vary by department and position. Representative Duties:

Specific duties are defined by the Division/Department. On-the-job training may occur. Student Assistant I - Entry level/Semi-skilled:

Work under immediate supervision with standardized, routine duties. Some assignments may involve special equipment, software, or tools. Supervisor assigns work, controls workflow, and provides instructions. Student Assistant II - Intermediate/Advanced:

Work under general supervision with established objectives and on-the-job training. Varied tasks with moderate responsibility; may involve access to data systems and confidential information. Requires at least one year of experience in the same student assistant assignment. Student Assistant III - Specialist/Lead:

Work under general supervision with broad, complex tasks requiring considerable training and independent judgment. May direct lower-level student staff; typically requires at least two years of experience in the same assignment.
