Overview
Optometric Technician (Family Eyecare Associates) role at VSP Ventures. The primary role is to assist the Optometrist with eye examinations and patient eye care, including conducting pre-testing or special testing, taking patient history information, and guiding patients through the eye care and clinical experience. Responsibilities
Prepare patients before the examination by gathering information about the patient’s vision and medical history, explaining the exam process, and documenting all needed information in the patient’s record. Work with technology and clinical instruments, taking measurements, and administering tests to determine the visual capabilities of the patient in preparation for the vision examination. Perform contact lens insertion; educate and train patients on contact lens insertion and removal. Order contact lenses of various materials and designs, and manage contact lens trials inventory. Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications. Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed. Prioritize patient care and patient flow while communicating effectively with doctors, staff, and patients. Perform, under the direction of the Optometrist, some therapy exercises or procedures with the patient. Assist in other areas of the office as necessary, such as answering phones, verifying insurance, checking in patients, scanning charts, maintaining a clean office, and checking patients in and out. Work on special projects, cross-train in different departments, and perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Qualifications
One to two years of experience in a related field. Working knowledge of MS Office package. Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiries. Effective written communication skills to clearly document patient visits. Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills. Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needs. Ability to listen, process transactions, and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Working Conditions
The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Additional Information
