This position is a Cardiovascular Technologist who has demonstrated advanced training in Interventional Cardiac Catheterization procedures; electrophysiology and mapping procedures; and procedures performed in a Hybrid OR Suite. Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Education: There are no specific educational requirements for this occupation. Education may be substituted for experience only at the GS-4 and GS-5 levels. Licensure or Certification: Licensure or Certification is not required for this occupation, however, it is strongly desirable at GS-6 or above as evidence of possession of the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) Grade Determinations: GS-9: Experience: At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. Preferred Experience: Registration by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) is highly desirable or a similar advanced certification. Duties

The cardiovascular technologist performs invasive cardiovascular procedures utilizing highly complex and technical monitoring equipment under the direction or prescription of a qualified physician. These procedures are performed on patients who have diagnoses of congenital heart disease, congestive heart disease, acquired heart disease, and coronary artery disease. The technologist has training and certification in advanced life support and is competent to recognize life-threatening changes during procedures. The patient populations are at a high risk for cardiopulmonary arrest and the technologist must be competent to assist with the rescue during these events. They mentor and train lower graded technicians, nurses, nursing students, and cardiovascular technology students on invasive cardiology procedures and assist the supervisor/manager with quality control and performance improvement activities. The incumbent must be able to be on-call and fulfill the obligations of on-call status. Duties, roles, and responsibilities include: Assure all equipment is operational prior to patient procedures, contact Cath Lab Supervisor, Biomedical Repair, and the attending physician when equipment is inoperative or malfunctioning, secure patient's confidence and cooperation during procedures, explain the procedure, position for desired results, cushion, and shield patients for a variety of difficult procedures. Work Schedule: Full time-Monday-Friday 7:30-4:00 p.m. - rotating 24/7 on call Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
