Position Summary Southeast Missouri State University's Office of Admissions is seeking a professional to advise students and families on the college search and enrollment processes. The Admissions Counselor will manage a recruitment territory, develop recruitment strategies, and execute outreach in their assigned territory.
The successful candidate will be a self‑motivated, results‑oriented, energetic professional who can succeed working independently. They will be a member of the University's admissions team – a team that is student-focused and committed to offering personal support for every student to persist in college and complete their degree.
This role is integral to the University's enrollment management efforts and is responsible for developing new student enrollment to meet institutional goals.
Primary Responsibilities
Guide new students through college visit, application, and enrollment steps within an assigned geographic territory
Develop relationships with prospective students, family members, and high school counselors
Collaborate with school districts to deliver early awareness, financial aid, and college planning presentations
Implement recruitment activities such as application workshops, webinars, and information sessions
Travel regularly, including evenings and weekends, to visit schools and attend college fairs
Provide presentations to small and large groups
Host community‑based events, support on‑campus special events, and meet daily with campus visitors
Conduct 1:1 recruitment outreach daily by video and audio calls, email, text, and in‑person
Engage with students on social platforms (e.g., ZeeMee, College Vine)
Maintain accurate student records in the University's customer relationship management (CRM) and student information systems (SIS)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree. Consideration will be given to Fall 2025 graduates (a bachelor's degree must be awarded by December 2025).
Demonstrated experience in a sales or customer service environment
Proficient in the use of technology tools used to manage information, including the Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Great relationship builder and conversationalist
Committed to delivering exceptional customer service
Excels at working independently with minimal supervision
Skillsets in time management and organization
Ability to work in a collaborative environment
Demonstrates innovative approaches in problem‑solving
Exercises sound judgment
Ability to travel extensively with or without accommodations and work alternate work schedules, including evenings and weekends
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds of publications and display materials with or without accommodations
Possess a valid state driver's license
