Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Job Specific Information

Knowledge of reading and math curriculum and interventions; ability to lead small group instruction; skilled with behavior management/modification structures/strategies; collaborate with teachers to review content, share data and provide input on student performance. The wage range for this position is a salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education and experience. Employment type: Part-time Working Months: 10 Shift: Day Job Responsibilities

Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities. Collaborate with the general education teacher. Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities. Assist in the development of IEPs. Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Support behavioral interventions; comply with courses in behavioral management and nonviolent crisis interventions as required by MCPS. Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Special Education (certification requirements per Maryland State Department of Education for Standard Professional Certification I in special education). Certificate/Licensure: Meets Maryland certification requirements; certification in a content area is desirable. Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessments. Knowledge of MCPS curriculum and Special Education program; strong IEP knowledge; data collection and progress monitoring skills. Ability to adapt instructional programs and materials; excellent communication skills. Ability to provide instructional support and collaborate with students, teachers, and parents/guardians.
