Independent Contractor Position Overview:
The Mandarin In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in various settings. This contract position offers flexibility and opportunities to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day. Job Functions: Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions professionally. Maintain professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness. Adapt quickly to new and changing situations. Follow interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting contexts. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work in diverse environments. Respect and understand LEP clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences. Have a strong passion for customer service and interpreting. Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions. Render accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol. Qualifications: Fluent in both Mandarin and English with strong verbal communication skills. Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy during interpretation. Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or holding a national certification. Knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC). At least 18 years old. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to read and write in Mandarin and English. Degree or certifications in interpreting practices. National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS. Completion of accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses). Seniority level
