Job Summary
APRN / PA working in the Emergency Room (ER) holds a crucial role in delivering comprehensive care to patients in urgent and critical situations. APRN / PA is responsible for performing triage, stabilizing patients with traumatic injuries, ordering diagnostic tests, and coordinating care with other medical staff.
APRN / PA works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Essential Functions
Patient Assessment and Triage: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, vital signs, and physical examinations. Prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition and provide immediate interventions. Diagnosis and Treatment: Formulate differential diagnoses based on assessment findings and diagnostic tests. Initiate and manage treatment plans, including ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, administering medications, and performing procedures within the scope of practice. Collaborate with physicians and specialists for consultations and referrals. Emergency Care Management: Provide emergency interventions such as CPR, wound care, airway management, and other life-saving measures. Monitor and manage patients in critical conditions, ensuring appropriate interventions are taken promptly. Hospital Care Management: Admit and manage hospitalized patients. Assist with care of skilled swing bed patients. Patient Education and Support: Educate patients and families on their conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions. Offer emotional support and counseling during critical situations. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes. Report patient status and collaborate with the healthcare team for continuity of care. Quality Improvement and Compliance: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance ER processes and patient outcomes. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, policies, and procedures. Administrative: Participate in committee work Assume other duties and responsibilities as necessary
Qualifications
Current and unrestricted APRN or PA license Minimum 5 years experience in an Emergency Room or ICU setting preferred Minimum 2 years experience as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications, Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills Ability to work efficiently in high-stress environments and manage multiple priorities
