Why this job is amazing RFK Academy at RFK Community Alliance is a state-approved special education day school that serves students aged 10–22 with multiple disabilities. The Science Teacher contributes to the application of functional and academic education as a key educational team member within a therapeutic milieu. The Science Teacher will develop and oversee progress on content and skill-based goals and evaluate progress collaboratively with the team according to treatment planning and students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Here’s where you come in The Science Teacher creates a differentiated curriculum, instructs content, and supports students’ ability to access the academic program. You will implement grade-level curricula to meet academic standards based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core. You will recognize the unique qualities of each student and tailor lessons and/or projects accordingly.

Key responsibilities

Operate a classroom that meets students’ needs for safety, educational growth, and social/emotional development.

Evaluate students’ educational needs in Science and develop plans and programs to meet those needs.

Produce educational assessments (formal and informal) in Science for each student.

Assist in the development of IEP goals with the Education Coordinator.

Provide classroom instruction to help students meet Science goals and curriculum goals per RFK Community Alliance and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

Participate in TEAM and Treatment Team Meetings involving classroom students.

Follow and actively participate in the Behavior Management System.

Supervise and develop a collaborative team atmosphere with colleagues and teaching assistants.

Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development days.

Contribute to teacher team meetings and implement team goals.

Model positive behavior and collaborate with RFK staff and external partners.

Assume other responsibilities necessary to ensure program safety and continuity.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred

Massachusetts teaching certification in Science or Moderate Disabilities

Valid Massachusetts driver’s license

Shifts

40 hours per week: Monday–Friday, days; 12-month benefited position

Who You Are You are someone who leads with compassion and values collaboration, professionalism, and teamwork. The best-qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree and MA certification in Science (5–12) or Moderate Disabilities (5–12) is preferred.

Special Education Teacher: Moderate Disabilities, High School, Science background preferred.
