POLICE OFFICER II **REPOST** (STIU/ MDH POLICE)

Job Purpose The main purpose of this full‑time position is to serve as a Maryland Police Training Commission certified Police Officer capable of conducting complex criminal and general investigations in a fair and impartial manner while maintaining strict confidentiality. The position will implement crime‑scene procedures, evidence retention, and comprehensive investigative reports. In accordance with federal, state, and local laws, the officer will conduct interviews, interrogations, and liaison with the Maryland State Police under the applicable Memorandum of Understanding regarding criminal investigations at MDH facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct forensic investigations, crime‑scene processing, and evidence collection.
Perform interviews and interrogations of suspects, witnesses, and victims.
Prepare detailed investigative reports and maintain case files.
Coordinate with the Maryland State Police and other law‑enforcement agencies as required.
Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and MDH policies.
Operate MDH vehicles and provide medical and judicial transport for forensic patients as needed.
Serve on on‑call status on a rotating basis and be available for recall during weekends, holidays, or off hours.
Minimum Qualifications
High‑school diploma or equivalent (as approved by the Maryland State Board of Education).
Six months of experience as a certified law‑enforcement officer.
Valid Maryland driver’s license.
Good writing and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct investigations fairly, impartially, and with confidentiality.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.
Recertification eligibility for officers previously certified within the past three years.
Special police commission may be required in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3‑209.
Special Requirements
U.S. citizenship.
At least 21 years of age.
Satisfactory background investigation and criminal history check.
Oral interview and physical examination required.
Certification in safe use and care of firearms if required by the Commission.
Substance‑abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.
