Disaster/Inclement Weather Procedures: Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs) and Faculty are considered essential personnel and may be required to report during disasters or inclement weather, which may involve working outside scheduled hours and contributing to recovery efforts.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides patient care assistance in a clinic or hospital setting in one or more specialized areas under the direction of a primary care physician.
UTHealth Houston Emergency Medicine department is hiring a Nurse Practitioner to join their Emergency Room team.
Location details: Lyndon B. Johnson Annex @ 5656 Kelley St. & Memorial Hermann 6411 Fannin St.
Preferences: Emergency Room experience; Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification required
Multiple Night Shifts: 6 PM-6 AM, 6 PM-2 AM, 10 PM-6 AM, 6 PM-4 AM
Nights-only position supplement: $1000/month
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Conducts complex, standardized patient care procedures under physician supervision, not constituting the practice of medicine
Coordinates, directs, and implements patient’s plan of care
Orders, conducts, and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures
Performs physical examinations and provides episodic or problem-oriented care under physician supervision
Orders appropriate laboratory tests and interprets results
Monitors the treatment program and informs the attending physician of pertinent medical information
Makes medical recommendations and/or referrals
Formulates, implements, and evaluates an outcome-based treatment plan
Maintains records detailing treatment plans and outcomes
Provides patient education on medical processes, medications, nutrition, and health promotion
Collaborates with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services
Other duties as assigned
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Nurse Practitioner:
Current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse; current Texas licensure as an APRN-NP; specialty certification as required by department; Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
Physician Assistant:
Current Texas licensure as a Physician Assistant; current PA certification issued by NCCPA; Basic Life Support (BLS) certified; proficient with relevant medical and surgical instruments
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Nurse Practitioner:
Master’s in Nursing as NP or master’s in Nursing with completion of a post-master NP certification program
Physician Assistant:
Master’s degree as Physician Assistant; or Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of professional experience in the role (based on terminal degree requirements at graduation)
