Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Practice Plan - Center for Interventional Psychiatry UTHealth Houston Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' Center for Interventional Psychiatry is looking for a Nurse Practitioner with experience working with mental health/psychiatry patients. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with ground-breaking interventions for treatment-resistant depression, such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato/Esketamine treatments. The Nurse Practitioner will be comfortable with mental health assessments, monitoring TMS and Spravato procedures, supporting multiple high-acuity patients in a fast‑paced outpatient clinic, and psychiatric medication management. Experience with Epic, psychiatry/mental health diagnoses such as MDD, procedures involving TMS/Spravato, and interventional psychiatric modalities is ideal.

Position Summary Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Position Key Accountabilities

Performs relevant patient assessments and physical examinations.

Coordinates, directs, and implements the patient’s plan of care.

Orders, conducts, and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures.

Makes medical recommendations and/or referrals.

Formulates, implements, and evaluates an outcome‑based treatment plan.

Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes.

Facilitates patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.

Collaborates with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in the patient’s recovery.

Provides clinical oversight for Spravato (esketamine) and TMS treatments, ensuring compliance with REMS requirements, adherence to protocols, and maintenance of patient safety through proper assessment and documentation.

Has a working knowledge of common psychiatric disorders and collaborates effectively in their management.

Other duties as assigned.

Certification / Skills

Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Nurse Practitioner (APRN‑NP) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required

Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification required

Minimum Education Master’s in Nursing as NP or Master’s degree in Nursing with completion of a post‑master’s Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

Minimum Experience None

Physical Requirements Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
