Arizona State Parks and Trails provides over 1,400 camping and RV sites throughout the parks and manages 8 of the top 25 most visited natural attractions in Arizona. PARK RANGER ASSISTANT — TOMBSTONE COURTHOUSE STATE PARK Temporary / Seasonal position May work up to 40 hours per week and up to 1500 hours per calendar year. Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Job Summary
Under supervision of the Park Manager, performs a variety of work activities while providing customer service in the operation of the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park and performs technical and specialized work in the daily operation of museums, archives and management of collections.
Job Duties
Serves as a museum specialist in such areas as collections, acquisitions and loans of artifacts, manuscripts and archival materials. Hosts visitors; assists with interpretive programs/exhibits and may lead guided historical tours. Cash handling - Perform cashier duties at Contact Station/Gift Shop; collect and account for fees for park admission and store purchases. General Maintenance Team Duties: Bathrooms, flooring, exhibits, surrounding landscaping and other as needed. Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of:
Working knowledge of Arizona and regional history, objects and documents; working knowledge of curation methods utilized in conserving, preparing, storing, and exhibiting museum objects and documents, or minerals; working knowledge of historical research techniques; considerable knowledge of museum policies and guidelines; basic knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; park rules, fees and revenue functions; techniques for display and interpretation of objects/artifacts and general resources to visitors; general office procedures. Skill in:
Public relations and information dissemination; active listening; service orientation; critical thinking; driving and operating automotive equipment; basic curatorial techniques. Ability to:
Research natural or historical information; perform math calculations; first aid techniques; oral and written communications; interpersonal relationships; de-escalate upset or non-compliant visitors.
Selective Preference(s)
The ideal candidate for this position will have two years of museum curation experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meet knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must possess and/or obtain and maintain a current Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment. First Aid/CPR/AED – can obtain.
