Overview
Position Summary The AWS RDS Database Engineer performs independently or as a key multi-functional team member in identifying, planning, developing, and deploying database applications and other technology solutions that can involve multiple physical locations and business units. Acts as the single point of contact for AWS database administration and escalations for the Banking Industry project. Responsibilities
Install, configure, patch, migrate, maintain, and upgrade open-source database platforms such as PostgreSQL and AWS RDS. Provide day-to-day operations expertise on AWS services (S3, EC2, etc.), with working knowledge of EDB, Oracle, and SQL Server. Implement effective and maintainable database coding practices that form an architectural foundation. Improve PostgreSQL performance through indexing, partitioning, and other optimization techniques; manage high-performance data concepts including message queuing and full-text indexing. Manage AWS environment tools and services, including RDS migration approaches, estimating timelines, and technical management. Maintain advanced Linux OS knowledge and SSH access using password and public/private keys for remote systems. Write database code efficiently while preserving data quality, privacy, and security. Hands-on experience with Jira, GitHub, Ansible, and Terraform; solid understanding of CI/CD using GitLab. Understand batch processing and job scheduling automation; apply database design principles, query optimization, index management, integrity checks, statistics, and isolation levels. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to evaluate alternative solutions and workarounds; strong analytical and interpersonal communication skills. Communicate effectively with clients, including identifying, analyzing, and solving problems in client-facing scenarios. Qualifications
AWS RDS hands-on experience. Capacity planning and performance assessment of AWS RDS instances. Strong PostgreSQL and SQL Server database administration experience in production environments. Configuration and support of complex RDS databases in AWS, including high availability and resiliency solutions leveraging Aurora read replicas and Global Database. Experience managing multiple RDS instances and database versions on large systems. Practical experience in monitoring; knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices. Experience using Performance Insights, RDS KPI design and management. Working knowledge of Lambda and Python. Strong technical and functional experience in PostgreSQL administration and related tools (PgBouncer, PgPool, and other binaries). Educational background: Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Engineering, or equivalent. Physical Requirements
Sitting for extended periods. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse. Ability to participate in and lead training sessions, presentations, and meetings. Reasoning and analyzing complex information; regular verbal and listening communication. Overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
