Overview
The Controller serves as a key leader within the organization's finance team, providing day-to-day oversight of accounting, grant management, and financial reporting functions. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is instrumental in ensuring financial integrity, supporting operational compliance, and driving process improvements. With oversight of a dedicated accounting team, the Controller acts as a strategic partner to leadership while remaining hands-on in maintaining financial policies and procedures.
Base pay range $95,000.00/yr - $105,000.00/yr
This position is full-time on-site in Salem, Oregon with potential flexibility for limited remote work in the future.
Due to the nature of this role and immediate business needs, we are only considering candidates currently residing in Salem, Oregon and surrounding area.
Responsibilities
Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, grant management, and compliance, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP and organizational policies.
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accounting staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Partner closely with the CFO to provide timely financial analysis, budget oversight, forecasting, and strategic financial insights to senior leadership and the board.
Lead the maintenance of financial controls and standard operating procedures (SOPs) across the organization.
Act as a key liaison between accounting and operational departments, effectively balancing organizational priorities with financial best practices.
Controller Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
Hands-on experience with grant accounting, particularly government or nonprofit grant requirements and compliance standards.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, government or nonprofit financial reporting, and internal controls.
Proven leadership skills with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities to navigate cross-functional relationships.
