Job Title Staff Accountant
Department Finance

Location Hampton, New Hampshire
Summary of Position The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in the finance department, contributing to the accuracy and effectiveness of financial reporting and control. This position supports month-end close processes, performs balance sheet reconciliations, manages cash flow forecasting, participates in FP&A, conducts variance analysis, and leads business process reengineering initiatives. The Staff Accountant will manage the general ledger, support accounts payable, and ensure compliance with taxation and governance regulations. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented, capable of balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Month-End Close: Assist in preparing monthly financial statements through journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Cash Flow Management: Prepare cash flow forecasts and manage daily cash flow; identify trends and provide insights for improvement.
FP&A and Variance Analysis: Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to explain differences between actuals and forecasts.
Business Process Reengineering: Lead or contribute to initiatives to improve financial processes and systems for efficiency and accuracy.
General Ledger Management: Maintain the integrity of the general ledger with timely and accurate transactions.
Accounts Payable: Support invoice processing, payment disbursements, and vendor communications.
Taxation and Governance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax filings and regulations; assist in maintaining internal controls.
Additional Responsibilities: May include supporting accounts receivable, payroll, fixed asset management, and participation in audits (internal and external).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to interpret financial data.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (especially NetSuite), Microsoft Excel, and ERP systems.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to convey complex financial information clearly.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in all tasks.
Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Teamwork: Ability to collaborate across departments.
Ethics and Integrity: Commitment to ethics, confidentiality, and compliance.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
3–5 years of relevant accounting experience preferred.
CPA or CMA certification, or in process of obtaining, preferred.
Experience with financial reporting, month-end close, and financial analysis is essential.
Schedule & Travel
Onsite office-based job; may require hours beyond 40 per week.
Ability to travel up to 10% as required.
