Skogman Companies is seeking a hands-on, detail-driven Senior Cost Accountant. This position supports their diverse family of real estate, homebuilding, insurance, and remodeling companies. In this role, you’ll take ownership of cost allocation, job costing, and financial reporting for homebuilding, development, and insurance divisions. You’ll be a trusted partner to leadership, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and insight across accounting and financial functions. Location is Cedar Rapids, IA | On-site. Reports To: Controller. Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Reporting: Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts across multiple divisions; Prepare accurate, error-free accounting reports; Support month-end and year-end close processes; Ensure compliance with GAAP principles; Analyze financial information and recommend improvements; Provide back-up support by learning other team members’ duties. Financial Analysis & Cost Accounting: Lead cost allocation and job costing for construction projects; Collect, analyze, and report on cost accounting data (variance analysis, cost comparisons, inventory, journal entries); Build financial models and forecasting tools to guide decisions; Identify trends in financial performance and recommend improvements; Assist with auditing, planning, budgeting, cost control, and project control; Evaluate capital expenditures, depreciation, ROI, and profit plans. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience Construction/homebuilding industry background strongly preferred Proven cost allocation and job costing expertise Strong accounting fundamentals with GAAP compliance Hands-on experience with general ledger functions and close processes Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis) Effective communicator and collaborative team player Highly detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated What We Offer
