As the
first strategic finance hire , the Controller will play a foundational role in standing up the finance and accounting function from the ground up. The company currently operates on
cash accounting
with lightweight systems and processes. The Controller will lead the
transition to accrual-based accounting , implement an
ERP system , and establish the financial infrastructure needed to support rapid growth and investor reporting. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a finance leader who thrives in build-mode and has experience bringing structure to scaling software businesses. Key Responsibilities
Build the Function : Establish a best-in-class finance and accounting operation from scratch, with a focus on scalability and compliance. Cash to Accrual Conversion : Lead the transition from cash-based to accrual-based accounting in alignment with GAAP standards. ERP Implementation : Own the selection and implementation of a scalable ERP system (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct) to replace current tools. Month-End Close & Reporting : Design and execute a reliable month-end close process, produce timely financial statements, and establish financial controls. Internal Controls : Develop policies, procedures, and controls in a high-growth, PE-backed environment to meet audit and investor expectations. Private Equity Engagement : Act as the key finance contact for the PE firm — supporting board reporting, KPIs, financial modeling, and strategic initiatives. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with leadership across Sales, Product, and Operations to support planning, pricing, and margin analysis. Team Building : Hire, train, and lead a lean finance and accounting team as the company grows. Candidate Profile
Must-Have Experience : 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting or corporate finance Proven success building out finance functions in early-stage or growth-stage SaaS companies Experience with
cash-to-accrual conversions
and
ERP implementations Strong understanding of SaaS metrics, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and GAAP Private equity experience or familiarity with investor reporting and governance expectations Preferred Qualifications : CPA strongly preferred Background in health tech, SaaS, or subscription-based businesses Hands-on experience with systems migration and automation Able to operate at both strategic and tactical levels — rolling up sleeves where needed Soft Skills : Entrepreneurial mindset; thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments High integrity and attention to detail Effective communicator and collaborator across all levels of the organization
