Overview
Senior Manager, Business Affairs at Alfred Music. Oversees the Business Affairs department including licensing, permissions, royalties, and contracts. Responsible for rights clearance for Alfred and MakeMusic Cloud content, and for reviewing, negotiating, and recording contracts on behalf of Music Brands. Core Functions
Manage day-to-day department responsibilities including oversight of Business Affairs Administrators and administration of all agreements, contracts, briefs, and licensing. Track rights and publisher split information in the royalty system; create and maintain copyright schedules and coordinate product clearance. Research and obtain third-party sub-licenses for publication clearance; create and execute reversion of rights agreements for authors. Copyright and PRO registration for original content; direct, review, prepare, and issue royalty statements in compliance with contract terms. Research and resolve royalty inquiries (advances, adjustments, Letters of Direction). Manage royalty database for rates, song splits, and client balances; support Accounting with royalty reconciliation, reserves, and forecasts. Interface with external auditors; coordinate with IT regarding online licensing and royalty system upgrades. Create, prepare, review, and edit contracts; ensure internal contract documents are accurate and compliant with data privacy and related statutory requirements. Provide guidance on contract generation and compliance; communicate changes in legal and compliance landscape to internal staff. Review and collaborate with executive team on contracts and documents (print licenses, single song licenses, author/arranger agreements, image and likeness, trademarks, distribution, video agreements, synchronization licenses, joint ventures, etc.). Execute copyright infringement takedown notices and work with industry groups on infringement efforts; summarize executed agreements and handle related administration. Engage with outside counsel as needed; negotiate settlements and prepare settlement agreements if applicable. Requirements
7+ years of music publishing experience in contracts, business affairs, royalties, licensing, or related roles. 3+ years of management experience. Strong understanding of copyright, royalties, and the print music industry. Ability to perform contract research, review, and general administration; ability to discuss matters related to copyright and related laws. Professional handling of confidential information; strong communication skills; attention to detail and ability to multitask. Proficiency in Excel with complex data analysis (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, advanced formulas). Ability to think strategically and analytically. Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of copyright/IP in publications/music environments. Previous contract management experience or paralegal certification. Benefits
