Position Summary
Custom Comfort Mattress is searching for a seasoned Financial Controller who will eventually assume the responsibilities of the incumbent CFO upon his retirement. This position requires a dynamic individual whose progressive career growth strengthens the Finance team and will have demonstrated the ability to serve as a strategic partner to the CEO before moving to the CFO role.
The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions for Custom Comfort Mattress, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data across manufacturing and retail operations. This role is responsible for managing the accounting team, maintaining robust internal controls, optimizing the use of NetSuite ERP, and partnering with leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
Manage all aspects of NetSuite ERP accounting modules — including GL, AR/AP, Inventory, Fixed Assets, and Financial Reporting.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff in daily operations (AR/AP, payroll, bank reconciliations, etc.).
Maintain and improve financial controls across retail locations and corporate departments.
Lead role in preparation of annual budgets that align with Business Plan objectives.
Analyze and report financial performance across business segments (Custom Comfort Mattress Retail, Airpedic Retail, Wholesale/Hospitality, Design).
Support leadership with financial modeling, profitability analysis, and cost‑control initiatives.
Develop and monitor KPIs for operational and financial efficiency.
Establish, document, and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate reporting.
Manage external audits and coordinate with tax and accounting firms.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including sales tax, MRC, quarterly tax payments, property tax and payroll filings.
Oversee inventory valuation and standard cost accuracy within the ERP system.
Monitor daily cash position, banking relationships, and credit facilities.
Ensure timely receipt of deposits from customer payment sources (credit card processing banks, customer financed transactions, etc.).
Ensure surplus cash on hand is properly invested/managed.
Serve as NetSuite ERP champion — maintain configuration, improve workflows, and train team members.
Identify automation opportunities and streamline accounting processes for scalability and efficiency.
Partner with operations and retail leadership to align financial reporting with business objectives.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA/MBA strongly preferred).
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Senior Controller role.
Experience in manufacturing, multi‑location retail, or wholesale/distribution environments required.
NetSuite ERP experience required; experience with integrations (POS, CRM, inventory management) preferred.
Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
