Position Summary:
The Senior Philanthropic Advisor (SPA) serves as a trusted philanthropic partner to a defined geographic region and acts as the liaison to the Academy of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. This fundraiser will secure major gifts with a focus on the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, with an emphasis on benefactors in Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois, as well as major and principal gifts for the Bio-Initiative and related interdisciplinary efforts. Working closely with the Relationship Management team, the SPA will build relationships with top prospects and benefactors helping the philanthropy team achieve revenue goals with metrics for face-to-face visits, gift conversations, proposals, and gifts closed. Developing deep partnerships with campus faculty, staff, and administrators to cultivate, solicit, and close major gifts in support of capital and comprehensive initiatives is essential. Hybrid arrangements will be considered, with regular on-campus presence expected.
Key Responsibilities Prospect Cultivation
Establish and cultivate relationships with key benefactors in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas focused on those with an affinity to the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and those interested in our Bio Initiative and related interdisciplinary efforts to build relationships and a strong pipeline of major gifts.
Draft creative benefactor strategies to deepen engagement for the benefactor to university partners.
Proposal Development and Solicitation
Partner with university leadership, faculty, and staff to meaningful major and principal gifts in line with the benefactor’s vision and in support of campus priorities.
Prepare and present compelling proposals and other solicitation materials to secure funding.
Stewardship and Relationship Management
Ensure proper stewardship of philanthropic gifts through timely acknowledgment, reporting, and recognition.
Maintain thoughtful and meaningful points of connection through communication with benefactors to maintain and deepen relationships encouraging continued support.
Collaboration and Communication
Function as a liaison to a Missouri S&T professional Academy, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
Coordinate with university departments to gather necessary information for proposals and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree.
At least 5 years of fundraising experience.
Track record of successes in building and managing relationships.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Outstanding social skills, interpersonal skills, discretion, and judgement.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA or other graduate degree.
CFRE preferred.
Sales, relationship building, account management, and similar transferable skills experience will be considered.
Proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts at $25,000 or above.

The Advancement team encompasses major gifts, annual fund, advancement services, and the Miner Alumni Association.
