We are pleased that you are interested in career opportunities offered at MICA.**Job Description for Technician, Globe Collection and Press at MICA**General Purpose: The Globe Technician is responsible for supporting the operations of Globe Collection and Press through education, print production, and administrative roles. The Technician will have backgrounds in both letterpress and screen-printing processes to be able to carry out educational and commercially oriented print projects. The Technician will provide hands-on technical and design expertise when facilitating experiences with students, visiting artists, and scholars. An ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning space.**Summary of Essential Functions**Workshops – Assist in coordination and facilitation of Globe workshops for internal and external audiences:* Assist workshop facilitators by preparing materials, demonstrating equipment, and supporting student learning.* Assist with workshops and open studio events on campus (eg. MICA Open House, MICA Weekend, and youth summer programming.) and off (eg. on site at youth programs, and at events including conferences and annual meetings)
Commercial Operations – Support Globe’s business enterprise:* Assist on the ideation, design, and print production of new commercial work for internal and external clients.* Provide technical support for screen and letterpress printing processes.* Track retail inventory, restock products online and at the MICA store.* Maintain organization of the wood type collection and archives.* Ensure the studio and equipment is clean, functional, and safe to use.Communications – Assist with promoting Globe activities to online audiences:* Develop content for viewer engagement with Globe’s website, online retail, and social media channels.* Document production of client projects**Essential Duties and Responsibilities*** Work with the Globe Manager to identify and carry out improvements for advancing Globe’s capabilities and outreach.* Assist with oversight of Globe operations to ensure safeguarding and organization of the physical collection.* Take a lead role in managing Globe intern schedules, training, projects, and engagement with the collection.* Provide technical proficiency in screen and letterpress printing processes.* Perform other related duties as assigned.**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities*** Excellent understanding of current letterpress, screen printing, and design practice.* Excellent oral and written communication skills.* Excellent organizational skills.* Ability to balance multiple deadlines and perform many tasks simultaneously.* Ability to collaborate with students, staff, and faculty.* Ability to work independently and take initiative in projects.* Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Drive platforms* Knowledgeable in Adobe suite programs, Square, and Wordpress.**Minimum Qualifications*** BFA or a four year degree in a printmaking related field.* Background in studio management**Physical demands and work environment**The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
