Senior SQL DBA – Lansing, MI Location:
Lansing, MI Hybrid:
2 days onsite per week (Wednesday and Thursday) Duration:
1 year with possible extension Interview mode:
2nd round interviews may be held in-person
Job Description Responsible for data analysis and database management. Involved in maintenance, enhancement, designing of data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and performance tuning. Knowledge of utilities and production tools used for data storage management to support the Application Team. Coordinates physical changes to computer databases; codes, tests, and implements physical database.
Responsibilities
Establish physical database parameters and use SQL for DDL and DCL operations.
Enter SQL to create production databases and monitor performance using database utilities and third‑party tools.
Review and correct database programs, answer user questions, and determine impact of changes on other systems.
Modify database programs for performance tuning and ensure database security and disaster recovery procedures.
Perform data modeling, prototyping, and maintain data dictionary and security recovery procedures.
Assist in selecting database management software and implementing benchmarks.
Maintain database performance, recommend efficiency improvements, and create test database environments.
Primary Skills
Advanced SQL and PL/SQL coding expertise, including functions, procedures, and packages.
Design robust database solutions and enforce database policies, procedures, and standards.
Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances.
Perform regular backups, restores, and recovery testing.
Monitor database performance, availability, and security using SSMS, SQL Server Agent, and third‑party monitoring solutions.
Manage indexes, partitions, statistics, and schema parameters for peak performance.
Apply patches, updates, and version upgrades as needed.
Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and system alerts.
Implement user roles, permissions, and access controls and ensure compliance with data security policies.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and high availability strategies.
Develop and enforce database models, access controls, and documentation standards.
Support data transfer and transformation processes with data warehouse teams.
Strong proficiency in T‑SQL and PL/SQL, with expertise in query optimization and performance tuning.
Experience with SSMS, SQL Server Agent, and monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Redgate, or Idera.
Solid understanding of database security, backup strategies, recovery models, and high availability configurations.
Familiarity with ETL processes, PowerShell scripting, and/or Azure SQL is a plus.
Proven ability to enforce development standards across teams.
Soft skills: Communication.
Years of Experience 12 – 14 years of experience in the field. Minimum years' experience required: 12.
Interview & Contract Information Interviews: Microsoft Teams with camera on (2nd round interviews may be held in-person) Contract duration: 12 months (extension possible) Position location: Hybrid Two days per week on site (Wednesday and Thursday)
