Here’s a Glimpse of the Job Technology Services is on the hunt for a passionate and innovative Software Developer to play a key role in supporting the university’s Public Policy Research Institute (PPRI), working on the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) and Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) projects. As a Software Applications Developer you will collaborate with end users throughout the entire development process, spanning from conceptualization and application deployment to ongoing maintenance and support. You will be working on the TIDC web application and MVCPA projects, involving external customer communication, managing expectations, and meeting hard deadlines. The development environment is dynamic. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of programming languages, including ASP.NET C#, PHP and Laravel, and even a little classic ASP. TIDC funds, oversee and improve public defense throughout the State of Texas, while MVCPA has fostered a statewide cooperative network of law enforcement groups, prosecutors, insurance industry representatives, local tax assessor-collectors, and concerned citizens to combat vehicle theft and burglary through enforcement, prevention, public information, and education initiatives. Design, implement, test, and maintain our web-based applications Provide technical assistance to our customers Document systems procedures and guidelines Actively participate in quality assurance Participate in collaborative team software design Meet with customers and technical staff to determine their needs and requirements Engage in IT trainings and professional development activities What you need to know

This role may require working outside of standard office hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support the demands of technology services and ensure the seamless operation of essential systems. Citizenship:
Must be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted asylum or refugee status in accordance with 15 CFR, Part 762; 22 CFR §§122.5, 123.22 and 123.26; and 31 CFR § 501.601 Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience AND 3 years of software development experience Ability to work in a collaborative team environment Strong interpersonal skills Excellent customer services skills Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system A well-qualified candidate should possess one or more of the following: Advanced skills in ASP.NET C#, PHP/Laravel, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Advanced skills in database design, querying, and administration, particularly with Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL Advanced client relations skills Quality Assurance experience Excellent written communications, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills Three years of related experience developing website applications, administering databases and transferring data Experience with version control systems, such as GitHub.com Responsive web design best practices Knowledge of project management, mentoring, negotiation skills, basic vendor relations, proposal writing, business acumen, persuasive communication, and team leadership skills Basic familiarity with Classic ASP for purposes of conversion Ability to solve problems and recommend alternative methods Ability to communicate technical details to a lay audience and ability to develop locally What to do
