The primary duties of this position are located within 30 miles of the state border; therefore, this position is exempt from the residency requirements. Applications will be considered from residents and non-residents of Colorado. However, licensure through DORA with the State of Colorado is still required at the time of application. Job Description
This position provides substance use disorder services to a special population of offenders, participating in a parolee intensive treatment program operated by the department, to include behavioral health assessments, individual and group therapy, clinical management of offenders with mental illness, and substance abuse issues. Responsibilities
Provides professional behavioral health services to the offender population, including formal and informal behavioral health evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and clinical interventions. Serves as consultant for unit staff regarding assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Provides clinical direction to non-clinical staff in behavioral health care and treatment of offenders. Ensures continuity of care for offenders by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary information and documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies. Provides crisis intervention in conjunction with clinical standards regarding mental health professional privilege level. Informs offenders regarding substance use treatment. Communicates regarding complaints, problems, transfers, classifications, and offender behavioral management issues as it relates to substance use treatment. Monitors inmate treatment and documentation to assure compliance with standards, ensures continuity of care, and completes assigned tasks in compliance with overtime exempt status. Important Note:

Applicant must possess a current, valid Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) credential issued by the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners AND Applicant must have one (1) year of licensed or license candidacy experience (e.g. Addiction Counselor Candidate) with the substance use, mental health and/or sex offender population. Substitutions
A valid license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) will substitute for the LAC requirement when combined with a valid certification from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or Addiction Counselor Candidate (ADDC). Required Competencies
Self-control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction Must possess and maintain a valid license as a Licensed Addiction Counselor Knowledge of Substance Use Disorder treatment standards and guidelines Knowledge of Mental Health standards and guidelines Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to read and comprehend English Ability to create accessible documents and content following plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind Ability to provide direct patient care to inmates Must maintain required licensure Preferred Qualifications
Possession of a current Professional Counseling License (LPC), Clinical Social Worker License (CSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Experience with mental health treatment and discharge planning for severely mentally ill and developmentally disabled populations Experience providing Substance Use Disorder treatment in a therapeutic community Experience treating incarcerated populations Experience conducting suicide risk assessments Experience as part of a multidisciplinary team Important Information and Conditions
