Colorado Department of Corrections offers a substance use disorder treatment position for offenders in Sterling, CO.
Who May Apply Applicants may be residents or non-residents of Colorado. Licensure through the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners (Licensed Addiction Counselor) is required.
Location STERLING, CO.
Description Of Job Provide substance use disorder services to a special population of offenders in a parolee intensive treatment program. Tasks include behavioral health assessments, individual and group therapy, clinical management of mental illness and substance abuse issues.
Responsibilities
Conduct professional behavioral health services, including formal evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and clinical interventions.
Consult with unit staff regarding assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
Provide clinical direction to non-clinical staff.
Assure continuity of care by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary documentation to receiving units, facilities, or agencies.
Provide crisis intervention in accordance with clinical standards.
Educate offenders regarding substance use treatment.
Communicate regarding complaints, problems, transfers, classifications, and offender behavioral management issues.
Monitor inmate treatment and documentation to assure compliance with standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Current, valid Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) credential.
One (1) year of licensed or candidate experience with substance use, mental health and/or sex offender populations.
Substitutions
Valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), or a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or Addiction Counselor Candidate (ADDC) qualifies as LAC.
Required Competencies
Self control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations.
Remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure.
Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment standards and guidelines.
Knowledge of mental health standards and guidelines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Maintain required licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Counseling (LPC) or Clinical Social Worker (CSW) licensure.
Experience providing mental health treatment and discharge planning with severely mentally ill and developmentally disabled populations.
Experience providing substance use disorder treatment in a therapeutic community.
Experience with incarcerated population.
Experience conducting suicide risk assessments.
Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Conditions of Employment
Must be 21 years of age.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or GED.
No felony convictions.
Pass Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training.
Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
Pass required background investigation.
