STARTING SALARY RANGE: $22.43 - $24.67 per hour POSITION NO: 7.105 DEPT: Finance Meter Technician II is a mid-level technical position responsible for performing meter replacements, installations, and advanced repairs such as gaskets, curb stops, and other complex components of the water distribution system. This position requires an active Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator License upon hire and supports the City’s efforts to ensure accurate utility metering, reliable water service, and proper field operations. Work is performed under the Utility Billing Manager’s direction and is reviewed through observation, conferences, records, and reports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Perform water meter installations, replacements, and removals in the field. Conduct complex meter and service line repairs, including gaskets, curb stops, and related fittings. Troubleshoot and resolve intermediate-level meter issues, escalating advanced concerns to the Senior Meter Technician as needed. Assist with maintaining meter inventory by documenting installations, replacements, and repairs. Read meters and accurately record consumption data to support utility billing. Perform preventative maintenance and testing of meters to ensure accuracy. Support Senior Meter Technician with route optimization, troubleshooting, and software integration when required. Respond to customer inquiries related to metering and provide field-level explanations of issues. Maintain accurate records of all work performed and comply with safety standards and City procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work collaboratively with billing staff to resolve discrepancies in meter data. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and city policies when performing fieldwork. Perform other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of English; spelling; math; standard office practices, procedures, and equipment. Ability to learn the City’s geographical service areas. Working knowledge of utility meter operations, installations, and field maintenance practices. Follow verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of safety practices related to utility fieldwork. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Clear communication skills for internal staff, contractors, and customers. Training, Certification, and Experience High School Diploma or GED required. Two (2) years of experience in utility metering, water distribution, or a related technical field. Active Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator License required upon hire. Experience with meter replacement and installation strongly preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Special Requirements Must obtain proficiency in the organization's meter reading software within six (6) months of employment.
