The Scrap Room Technician is responsible for unloading, receiving, and processing (SAP Goods Receipt) all inbound aluminum coils. They deliver coils to the line for consumption and remove all dunnage and packaging materials following processing. This role also involves processing scrap materials in the scrap room, including weighing, SAP BOL creation, and loading scrap onto trucks for outbound shipment.
Essential Functions/Key Deliverables
Inspect forklift and material handling equipment before use to ensure safety and operational readiness.
Record pre-use checks in the system or logbook.
Operate large industrial lift trucks (~80,000 lbs capacity).
Report faults or breakdowns to the Production Supervisor.
Unload, receive, and prepare inbound coils for processing.
Deliver coils to production area equipment.
Dispose of packaging and dunnage efficiently.
Remove recyclable materials from the production floor each shift and process through proper waste streams.
Weigh, process, and load scrap bales onto trucks.
Perform preventative maintenance such as checking oil levels, greasing, and filter changes.
Communicate repair needs via the work order system.
Use SAP for inbound receipt and BOL creation for outbound shipments.
Prioritize tasks to support production and ensure timely raw material delivery and scrap removal.
Transport materials following FIFO procedures.
Clean forklifts and handling equipment per ISO and BRC standards.
Assist with CP system implementation and audits.
Safely exchange gas cylinders, refill fuel tanks, or replace/recharge batteries.
Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Engineering or technical degree preferred. Previous forklift experience highly preferred. Must be able to operate a forklift. Proficient in reading and writing English. Basic math skills required. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and SAP. Ability to work independently and in a team; flexible and eager to grow. Physical Demands Position involves frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50+ lbs occasionally). Specific activities and their frequency are detailed in the original description.
