Purpose and Scope:
The
Copper Splicing Technician
will splice and maintain copper cables and various communication equipment for both landline and wireless communications. Responsibilities: Install, repair, and test copper cables using bucket trucks, climbing poles or ladders, or entering tunnels, trenches, or confined spaces. Work safely by following safety guidelines near power sources, at heights, in confined spaces, on rooftops, basements, and roadside. Climb utility poles, including stepped and non-stepped, using gaffs as required. Connect and rearrange cable facilities according to splice documents. Maintain and clean tools, test equipment, and work machinery. Read and interpret blueprints and splice diagrams. Qualifications: Minimum 3 years of OSP lineman or telecommunications experience preferred. Ability to safely climb wood poles and use ladders. Experience with telecom construction duties. Knowledge of OTDR testing and troubleshooting. Understanding of cable sizes, counts, and color codes. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Capability to carry 70 lbs., including extension ladders. Comfort working at heights up to 45 feet. Physical ability to bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb, and lift during shifts. High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the U.S. Ability to pass drug and background screening. Meet weight limit of 275 lbs. for safety reasons. Working Conditions: Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces, including climbing utility poles. Driving utility vehicles and outdoor work are common. Work often in adverse weather conditions such as snow, wind, rain, extreme heat, or cold. Travel and weekend work may be necessary. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in aerial buckets with a 300-pound weight restriction, including PPE and tools. Lift and move up to 70 pounds, including climbing and operating extension ladders up to 28 feet high.
