Job Overview The Tennessee Department of Health Office of Investigations seeks a field investigator for the Health‑Related Boards. Duties include investigating complaint allegations, collecting evidence, and preparing concise reports of findings.
Key Responsibilities
Represent the Department in investigating complaint allegations of licensed healthcare providers on behalf of the 34 health‑related boards.
Conduct in‑person interviews of complainants, witnesses, and respondents to determine the veracity of allegations filed against a licensed healthcare provider.
Collect, evaluate, and process evidence.
Prepare written reports documenting the findings of the investigation.
Coordinate with law enforcement agencies (state and federal) regarding allegations of criminal activity by licensed healthcare providers.
Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel throughout the investigation.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field and at least five years of full‑time investigative experience conducting healthcare investigations.
OR a bachelor’s degree in nursing with equivalent experience of at least three years of full‑time, increasingly responsible professional nursing.
Substitution of experience for education: qualifying full‑time experience in nursing or healthcare investigations may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
Substitution of graduate education for experience: additional graduate coursework in nursing or healthcare investigations may be substituted for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis, up to a maximum of one year.
Other Requirements
If applying as a registered nurse, the candidate must be licensed as a registered nurse in Tennessee and in good standing.
A valid motor vehicle license is required for employment in this position.
