Sales Manager - Visit Plano
Join the City of Plano and help grow Visit Plano, a leading Destination Marketing Organization serving the city of Plano. Our Sales Managers are brand ambassadors, working directly with corporate meeting planners and decision‑makers to bring high‑value events to life. You will build relationships, create opportunities, travel, negotiate, and track results such as leads generated, room nights booked, and revenue delivered.
Job Details Location: Visit Plano Office (in Plano, TX). Employment Type: Full‑time. Regular/Temporary: Regular. Pay Range: $32,177.87 – $48,266.80 per year.
Travel: Overnight travel is required; average 10 out‑of‑town events per year, often on weekends.
Office: Work from the designated office.

Responsibilities
Manage accounts by contacting potential clients to promote Plano as a destination and maintaining relationships to encourage repeat business.
Set appointments for marketing and promotional visits; make presentations to groups.
Maintain a database of client contact information and respond promptly to inquiries and leads generated from various sources.
Attend and prepare for industry conferences and trade shows; set up marketing materials and arrangements for trade show appearances.
Generate leads for hotels and meeting facilities; produce individualized bid proposals; follow up with clients through the bid process.
Book sales after receipt of bid proposals; prepare event contracts.
Schedule, plan, and conduct site visits of Plano hotels, meeting facilities, off‑site venues, and attractions to promote Plano.
Review, develop, and create advertising, marketing, and promotional materials.
Assist with the development of annual budgets and marketing plans; participate in goal setting and prepare expense reports.
Ensure attendance and consistency for the assigned work schedule.
Work collaboratively with Visit Plano team members to align goals and optimize cross‑departmental efforts.
Typical Decisions The incumbent must assess the availability and suitability of facilities to meet client needs, determine budget allocations for initiatives, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines and client expectations. Strategic decision‑making aligns Visit Plano’s objectives with market opportunities.
Qualifications
Knowledge of hospitality industry practices, marketing and sales, operations, and functions; City of Plano attractions, restaurants, and activities; legal terminology related to contract negotiation and compliance.
Travel: Overnight travel required; average 10 out‑of‑town events per year, sometimes on weekends.
Office: Work from the office.
Skill: Verbal and written communication; computer proficiency; proposal preparation; project and task prioritization; networking and partnership development; CRM management systems.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, public relations, or related field.
Experience: Three (3) years in hospitality sales, hospitality management, or event sales and coordination.
Any work‑related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the minimum qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the education and experience requirements.
License: Valid driver’s license.
Conditions of Employment Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access to Police buildings), and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions Primarily an office classification; standing and walking between work areas. Finger dexterity needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds to assist in set up and break down of events. Office environment with moderate noise, controlled temperature, no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. May interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
