Overview

Adjunct Faculty, Sociology at Lone Star College (LSC) – part-time position hired semester by semester based on student demand. Classes are offered day, evening, and weekend at various times and locations. Responsibilities

Teaches Sociology courses at a variety of times and locations Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines Meets with and advises students before/after class or by appointment, via electronic communication, or other appropriate methods Evaluates students to measure progress toward course objectives and informs students of their progress in a timely manner Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required Is responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned Qualifications

Master's in sociology or a Master's with 18 graduate hours in sociology Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Mastery of course content Demonstrated leadership skills; collaborative, teamwork, and facilitation Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning and distance learning Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology Ability to engage students effectively using proven strategies Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items. No special physical demands are required. Work Schedule And Conditions

Work in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal safety hazards Hours vary based on scheduled classes; instructors must meet classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class Equipment includes standard PC/workstation, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment Salary
