Position summary The Pre-Admissions Testing Advanced Practice Professional (APP), which may include Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Physician Assistants (PAs), plays a key role in ensuring patients are medically optimized and safely prepared for surgical and procedural interventions. The APP conducts comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, coordinates necessary testing, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to identify and mitigate risks prior to surgery. This role emphasizes patient education, evidence-based decision making, and seamless care transitions to improve perioperative outcomes and enhance patient experience. The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students. Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include, but are not limited to. Minimum qualifications

For Nurse Practitioner Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia CNOR Certification BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department Department Specific: APRNs requesting to be privileged as First Assists in perioperative services will be required to have ANOR approved RNFA Certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of the department Experience Eligible new graduates will be considered Preferred qualifications Acute care, surgical or orthopedic experience preferred For Physician Assistant Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Bachelor’s Degree as Physician Assistant, or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant required Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program required Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of the department Education, and/or Licensure Master’s level degree as Physician Assistant preferred Acute care, surgical or orthopedic experience preferred Core duties and responsibilities

Manages comprehensive and individualized care for orthopedic patients and their families in the inpatient phase of hospitalization and immediate post discharge and in the ambulatory setting Completes daily rounds; consults and/or pre-procedure/evaluations; participates in peri-operative patient care including first assisting in the operative suite Completes integrated assessments Orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate in collaboration with orthopedic faculty or following established clinical Guidelines and Protocols Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice Consults and communicates with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings Performs comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings in the medical record Facilitates patient discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to discharge for outpatient follow-up Develops a comprehensive, individualized plan of care for orthopedic patients including teaching, perioperative planning, discharge planning and referrals as necessary Demonstrates expertise across the age continuum and identifies unstable or complex orthopedic patient care situations Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency care Evaluates orthopedic patients and coordinates follow-up procedures and tests in the ambulatory setting Assists in data collection and contributes to quality and outcome measurements Uses evidence-based reasoning in clinical decision making and ensures safe equipment use Provides education to nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients and families Supports learning, evidence-based practice, and professional development for staff Documents plan of care and interventions in the medical record in accordance with policies Collaborates with leaders and staff to improve patient outcomes Leads and participates in program development and education for orthopedic care Promotes innovation and expanded roles in care delivery Participates in committees and task forces as assigned Documents hours and submits billing reports as appropriate Reviews orthopedic data and recommends changes to improve care and efficiency Participates in clinical trials and research studies when applicable Other duties/projects as assigned Physical requirements
