Job Title: Independent Living and Day Program Instructors Department: Independent Living Services Reports to: Independent Living Service Coordinator Prepared by: Human Resources Summary

Carries out direct services to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes. Instructs individuals in social and communication skills, money management, meal planning, self-care, household management, recreational skills, house and apartment hunting, advocacy, and self-advocacy skills. Responsibilities

Follow agency policies and actively promote its philosophy and mission. Work with consumers to meet ISP and personal goals in home and community settings. Advocate for clients’ rights and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Teach self-advocacy, personal, domestic, medical, financial, social, communication, and behavior management skills. Assist clients with transportation arrangements for appointments and errands. Emergency and Safety

Report emergencies or life-threatening situations immediately. Utilize mobility and medical equipment safely and correctly. Support consumers during crisis situations following established behavior plans. Administrative and Communication

Complete required paperwork accurately and timely. Participate in ID team meetings. Maintain professional appearance and punctuality. Report incidents, injuries, or changes in personal contact information promptly. Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Six months experience in developmental disabilities or related field. Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, or MS Works). Skills and Certifications

Ability to read and write in English; Spanish speaking preferred. Possess a valid California driver’s license, insurance, and a clean DMV record. Willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, and RESPECT certifications within first three months. Physical and Work Environment

Lift up to 80 pounds, assist with mobility, and perform physical tasks as needed. Work indoors/outdoors, in various weather conditions, and handle possible hazards and challenging behaviors. Employment Details
