POSITION TITLE: Behavior Intervention Specialist DEPARTMENT: Recuperative Care REPORTS TO: Director of Mental Health Crisis Services LOCATION: PICO UNION, GLENDALE, CA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt HOURLY SALARY: $23.00 - $25.00 The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) utilizes a behavior analysis method to help improve behaviors of recuperative care guests and individuals with developmental and behavioral challenges. Responsibilities include observing behaviors, providing guidance, creating behavior support plans, and collaborating with teams to implement behavior interventions. The goal is to help guests manage social interactions and situations more effectively.

Responsibilities and Initiatives

Study guest behavior and apply ABA principles

Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to develop behavior support plans

Respond appropriately to behaviors among homeless guests and those with challenges

Provide effective feedback and communicate positively with guests

Complete written behavior support plans and conduct assessments

Document progress and review behavior changes

Work with crisis mobile team to incorporate behavior plans

Communicate with family, staff, and team members to support guest needs

Train staff and guests on behavior plans

Recognize and respond to critical behavior changes

Use behavioral redirection techniques

Respond professionally to negative behaviors

Document all interactions and progress

Consult with medical and mental health professionals

Be on call for crisis response and post-transition care

Perform additional duties as needed

Follow organizational policies and procedures

Requirements

Experience working with older adults or individuals with diverse abilities

Minimum 6 months relevant experience (internships, volunteer, employment)

Bachelor’s degree in behavioral analysis preferred

High School Diploma or GED required

Registered Behavior Technician certification preferred

Strong communication skills

Ability to work under high stress

Reliable, organized, and punctual

Experience in crisis intervention and mental health

Ability to work in a team and community settings

Knowledge of community resources and legal standards

Flexible schedule including weekends

Adherence to ethical standards and mental health laws

Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Effective verbal communication required. Noise levels vary, and hearing alarms and verbal cues is necessary.
