Job Summary
Provides animal research support, animal health care, and facilities and equipment maintenance for the Clemson University animal research and teaching programs. Provides technical services as related to animal research. Complies with animal welfare regulations and institutional policies and guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
45% - Essential - Animal Care and Husbandry: Provides daily care of laboratory research animals. Feeds, waters, and performs daily observations of animals. Reports any abnormal observations to facility management. Maintains detailed and accurate records of daily activities involving research animals. Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures on species specific animal care and husbandry.
40% - Essential - Facility and Equipment Maintenance: Cleans and sanitizes caging, equipment, animal rooms, corridors, and support areas. Maintains the throughput of caging and equipment in the cage wash area. Assist in the preventative maintenance of various equipment and maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance. Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures on equipment operation, cleaning, and maintenance.
15% - Essential - Technical Research Support: Provides technical support for research staff and students for specific procedures outlined in approved animal use protocols such as, but not limited to: injections, blood withdrawals, tissue collections, or other procedural support.
Education & Experience Education - High School or Equivalent and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. An associate degree in animal health technology or a discipline related to agriculture may be substituted for the required work experience. Work Experience 1+ years.
Education - Bachelor's Degree - Animal husbandry, biological sciences, agriculture, or related field. Work Experience 2+ years of experience in animal husbandry, agriculture, or related field.
