Overview Animal Research Lab Technician position at Clemson University. Job Summary Provides animal research support, animal health care, and facilities and equipment maintenance for the Clemson University animal research and teaching programs. Provides technical services as related to animal research. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

45% - Essential - Animal Care and Husbandry: Provides daily care of laboratory research animals. Feeds, waters, and performs daily observations of animals. Reports any abnormal observations to facility management. Maintains detailed and accurate records of daily activities involving research animals. Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures on species specific animal care and husbandry.

40% - Essential - Facility and Equipment Maintenance: Cleans and sanitizes caging, equipment, animal rooms, corridors, and support areas. Maintains the throughput of caging and equipment in the cage wash area. Assists in the preventative maintenance of various equipment and maintains detailed and accurate records of maintenance. Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures on equipment operation, cleaning, and maintenance.

15% - Essential - Technical Research Support: Provides technical support for research staff and students for specific procedures outlined in approved animal use protocols such as, but not limited to: injections, blood withdrawals, tissue collections, or other procedural support.

Minimum Requirements

Education - High School or Equivalent and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. An associate degree in animal health technology or a discipline related to agriculture may be substituted for the required work experience.

Work Experience - 1+ years

Preferred Requirements

Education - Bachelor's Degree - Animal husbandry, biological sciences, agriculture, or related field

Work Experience - 2+ years of experience in animal husbandry, agriculture, or related field

Responsibilities JOB KNOWLEDGE: Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations.

Supervisory Responsibilities No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

Budgetary Responsibilities No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

Work Schedule Standard Hrs: 37.5

Compensation Information Expected Salary Range ($31,826.00 - $38,000.00)

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Essential Personnel Level Essential Level 2 employee

Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
