Position Overview Secondary Social Studies Teacher, 1.0 FTE

Spring Lake Park High School

Start Date: 2025-2026 School Year

Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the High School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for developing students’ knowledge and skills in history, civics, economics, geography, and related fields of social studies. The teacher fosters critical thinking, cultural awareness, and civic responsibility by engaging students in the analysis of power structures, global connections, and diverse perspectives. The position promotes informed citizenship and prepares students to participate effectively in a interconnected society.

Essential Functions

Develops and administers Social Studies education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to personalized learning and small group instruction, and student learning.

Develops unit plans and instructional materials and translates unit and trimester plans into learning experiences that challenge each student, and incorporates flexible use of time, space and resources.

Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions utilizing primary and secondary sources, mass media, and diverse cultural perspectives.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.

Effectively assesses and communicates each students progress in their learning with the student and their parent(s)/guardian(s).

Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure each student is known by name, strength, interest and need and this information is harnessed to ensure each student experiences success and graduates with post secondary plans.

Primary Responsibilities

Focused on knowing each student by name, strength, interest and need, leading to personalized student work and learning experiences

Confident in their abilities to teach in multiple modes (Brick and Mortar, Hybrid and Online)

Able to approach learning from a student centered platform vs a teacher centered platform

Innovate and can blend learning across multiple subject areas, and regularly collaborate with peers in learning communities within the school and district

Interested in ongoing communication with families, not only to report success and struggles, but to build relationships

An educator who can analyze data, set goals, learn individually and collaboratively, implement new learning, and monitor, assess, and adjust practice

Qualifications The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree. Candidate must possess highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability work harmoniously with a wide range of students, families, and staff members. Additional demonstrated qualifications include: commitment to the equitable education of all students; creative planning and organizational skills, and experience working with and celebrating diverse learners.

Licensing Requirements Current Minnesota 5-12 Social Studies Licensure, or eligibility, required.

Salary 1.0 FTE Teacher

Rate of Pay: $50,076-$102,103/school year (placement determined based on experience and qualifications)

Salary pro-rated based on start date
