The primary purpose of the Pediatric Department is teaching, research and patient care in those issues involving the needs of children, with particular emphasis on the children of eastern North Carolina. The TEDI BEAR Children’s Advocacy Center specializes in child abuse and neglect and provides comprehensive evaluation, evidence-based interventions for abused children and their non-offending caregivers, community support and resources, education and training, and advocacy to promote the health and wellness of abused and neglected children. Job Duties
As an advanced level clinical provider, this position extends the services of the General Pediatrics Division and the TEDI BEAR program. Responsibilities include: Provide comprehensive evaluations for children suspected of being abused and/or neglected, including history-taking, examinations (including colposcopy and labs), and participation in final assessments and recommendations with the interdisciplinary team. Communicate with law enforcement and social service agencies; occasional court testimony may be required. Collaborate with the medical director and attending pediatricians for training, consultation, and review as needed. Teach medical students and residents in clinical settings. Opportunities may exist to provide primary care pediatric services, health maintenance, adolescent health care, and contribute to division research activities, depending on need, experience, and interest. Note: This is a Clinical Support Position – not subject to State Human Resources Act. The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital and flagship hospital for ECU Health. Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from a physician assistant program approved by the NC Board of Medical Examiners and approved to practice medical acts, or licensed as a registered nurse with graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by the NC Joint Subcommittee and two years of experience in the assigned specialty; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. License or Certification Required
Approved to practice medical acts based on education and experience by the NC Board of Medical Examiners OR Licensed by the NC Board of Nursing. Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience with pediatric populations; thorough knowledge of child abuse/neglect evaluation and experience in conducting such evaluations is preferred. Special Instructions to Applicant
