Description
This position involves responsibilities in administration, teaching, research, and medical service aligned with the mission of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the needs of the Department of Neurology, Springfield Memorial Hospital, Decatur Memorial Hospital, and St. John's Hospital. The faculty member will provide care for critically ill patients with neurologic and neurosurgical illnesses and serve as part of the multidisciplinary neurocritical care or stroke teams at SMH and DMH.
Examples of Duties
Teaching (10%)
Ensure education and continuing education of residents, faculty, and staff in neurocritical care and stroke.
Deliver lectures, seminars, conferences, and teaching rounds for residents and students.
Provide bedside teaching during attending rounds with residents and students on Neurology, Neurocritical care, and Stroke services at SMH.
Attend Neurology Grand Rounds and present two per year.
Service (Patient Care) (75%)
Develop and maintain a professional practice consistent with departmental policies and the University practice plan, including tertiary care for stroke and neurocritical care.
Participate in SIU tele-stroke program.
Attend inpatient stroke services at Springfield Memorial Hospital and Decatur Memorial Hospital via telehealth.
Attend in the Neurocritical Care unit at Springfield Medical Hospital as needed, with schedule varying based on clinical needs.
Administration (10%)
Collaborate with Springfield Medical Hospital stroke teams in stroke patient management.
Attend faculty meetings and participate in committees at SIU, Springfield Memorial Hospital, St. John's Hospital, and Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Research (5%)
Participate as principal investigator in multicenter and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and other scientific outlets.
Qualifications
Sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
Board certified or eligible in Neurology.
Board certified or eligible in Neurocritical care or Vascular Neurology.
Licensed as a physician in Illinois.
Credentialing at SMH, DMH, and St. John's Hospital.
