Position Before and After School Instructor - Meredith Mathews

What you’ll do

Guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning activities in a Y Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program.

Teach teamwork and social emotional learning while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and fun.

Implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities in line with YMCA Youth Development goals.

Supervise a group of children to ensure health, safety, and a positive experience; provide guidance to staff/volunteers as needed.

Communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information with parents/guardians.

Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.

Maintain the site’s appearance and cleanliness; assist in snack preparation and cleanup as needed.

Attend staff meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.

Hours and location

Locations: Rainier View, Thurgood Marshall, Bailey Gatzert (schools within the Seattle School District).

Part-time onsite position. Start date: 8/23/2025.

Hours vary by school/location: Monday–Friday, 6:45am start to school start; after school end time to 6:00pm. Full day programming offered on non-school days and early release days.

Requirements

MMR vaccination or immunization as required by licensing and program policy.

Minimum age: 16 years (18+ preferred).

1–2 years of experience with children (camps, childcare, tutoring, nannying).

Pre-employment TB tests and MMR vaccination; Concentra options available at no cost.

Completion of minimum STARS training and CPR/First Aid Training.

Cleared Portable Background Check in MERIT.

Preferred education/experience

Knowledge of and experience with diverse populations; bilingual abilities are helpful.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

Ability to model YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility, honesty.

Experience planning and implementing group activities; effective communication with families.
