Senior Counsel – Complex Litigation (Part-Time, Flexible Schedule) – California Bar License Required. This part-time Senior Counsel role is designed for experienced litigators looking to lead meaningful case work, mentor litigation teams, and deliver strategic results—while billing approximately 100 hours per month. You’ll have the autonomy to work how you work best, without stepping away from impactful, complex defense litigation. Base pay range: $100,000.00/yr - $118,000.00/yr What You’ll Do
Lead strategy and oversight for complex insurance defense and civil litigation matters Collaborate with attorneys across teams, offering high-level guidance and mentoring junior litigators Oversee case development from inception to resolution, including trial preparation when needed Serve as a strategic advisor to clients, balancing exceptional representation with practical solutions Contribute meaningfully while maintaining a flexible schedule of approximately 100 billable hours per month Who You Are
You are a highly experienced litigator (8+ years) with a strong background in insurance defense or complex civil litigation. You’ve led high-stakes cases and thrive on strategy, courtroom advocacy, and collaboration. You’re looking to stay active in litigation without the demands of a full-time role—and you’re energized by the opportunity to mentor, advise, and make an impact with flexibility and purpose. Responsibilities
Develop a case theme that is more compelling than any plaintiff ploy for sympathy or anger Refuse to accept mediocrity, the average, the standard or the norm in anything Independently handle court appearances, depositions, briefs and trials Work as part of a team with all levels of experiences Routine communications with clients Cultivate relationships with the firm’s existing and future clients Provide leadership and direction with respect to less experienced attorneys Requirements
JD from an ABA approved school Must be licensed in your state 8+ years of solid litigation experience, specifically with litigation support, deposition and trial preparation Ability to manage full case handling responsibilities, including all facets of discovery and trial Experience handling insurance defense matters preferred Experience with time management systems Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision Outstanding listening, verbal and written communication skills Professional appearance and demeanor Benefits
