The Department of English at the University of South Carolina invites applications for one-semester adjunct instructor positions. The teaching load will be 1 to 4 sections (10 to 40 hours per week) in our First-Year English program (Teaching English 101 and English 102) during the Fall 2022 semester. Appointments are for one semester, but have the possibility of being renewed. Candidates must hold a degree of M.A. or higher in English or a related field, completed by August 1, 2022. Preferred candidates will hold a terminal degree (a Ph.D. in English or an M.F.A.), and have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching English at the college level, with evidence of effectiveness. The University of South Carolina System is comprised of the state’s flagship university in Columbia (founded in 1801 and currently one of the top 50 “Best Colleges” according to U.S. News and World Report), three regional comprehensive universities (USC Aiken, USC Beaufort and USC Upstate), and Palmetto College consisting of four two-year campuses (USC Lancaster, USC Salkehatchie, USC Sumter, USC Union and Fort Jackson/Extended University). Salary: $4,000 to $5,000 per course (determined by degree). Part-time position, 10 hours to 40 hours per week.
