Overview
Environmental Services Technician PT-Scurlock role at Houston Methodist. This position performs general and moderately complex cleaning tasks in assigned areas to provide a safe and attractive environment for patients, guests, and staff. It maintains environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures and follows Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) standards for turnover and terminal cleaning of procedure rooms. The role involves working with floor maintenance equipment and chemicals, handling hazardous materials for disposal, conference room set ups, linen distribution, collection and tracking as appropriate.

Service
Responds promptly and positively to requests for directions and information from patients, staff and visitors Responds to assignments to create an environment conducive for healing; communicates and documents facility or patient-related issues to management as appropriate Performs efficient room cleaning processes ensuring timely patient admissions
Quality/Safety
Follows department processes for room cleaning and discharge inspections to meet or exceed HCAHPS cleanliness scores Meets discharge, daily room cleaning and area turn-around times as appropriate During discharge activity, tracks, logs, and notifies management of safety and repair needs for equipment Follows policies, procedures and safety rules; corrects minor safety hazards and observes standard infection control precautions; complies with OSHA standards Follows cleaning/maintenance procedures for all floor types; handles solid/biohazard waste per procedures; uses specialty cleaning procedures in areas such as surgical, procedural or isolation rooms; transports linen appropriately and supports quality assurance by examining and identifying quality of linen
Finance
Uses and stores chemicals, paper goods, supplies, and equipment appropriately; reports and assesses wasteful practices Manages time effectively and prioritizes daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime
Growth/Innovation
Participates in growth and development activities; participates in continuing education and in-service programs; contributes in EVS governance and teams to improve department processes Fosters a positive teaching environment by engaging coworkers in valuable learning opportunities aligned with business objectives

Education
High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Work Experience
One year of experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Required: DOT HAZMAT Certification (DOT) — U.S. Department Of Transportation Hazardous Materials Certification within 90 days Preferred: Driver License (State Licensure)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to perform duties safely with ongoing competency assessment English proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing, especially where safety is involved Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff with a customer service focus Ability to access information within the department and hospital system to support operations Multi-tasking, time management, and ability to work with minimal supervision Efficient and safe use of housekeeping equipment and chemicals
