Overview

Open Until Filled The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees. We are seeking Correctional Officers for the Wyoming Women’s Center in Lusk, Wyoming. The Wyoming Women’s Center (WWC) was established in 1981 and serves as a primary education and treatment center for female inmates. WWC provides programming, vocational, recreational, and educational programs to reduce recidivism through cognitive and behavioral intervention. This position is essential for maintaining the institution's safety and security and is a Law Enforcement position receiving the 20-year retirement and state benefits package. Essential Functions

The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level. Enforce rules and regulations. Respond to post orders of varied assigned posts. Model appropriate, pre-social behavior. Supervise inmates in the performance of various jobs; model appropriate, pre-social behavior. Assist in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items. Observe daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line; report security violations. Conduct daily scheduled counts of inmates. Assume duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas that monitor inmate movements. Become familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions. Assist in restraining unruly inmates, using the minimum amount of force required. Assist in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations. Assist in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the processing of released inmates. Attend required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.

Preferred Qualifications and Agency Requirements

Required: All successful candidates will be required to complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must have a valid driver's license. Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.

Knowledge

Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.

Minimum Qualifications

0-1 year of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Physical Working Conditions

Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre-employment testing prior to appointment. Candidates must have the ability to work overtime as required, and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.

The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a Drug-Free Workplace. Per WDOC policy, all staff are subject to drug testing while employed by WDOC. Successful applicants for employment must pass a background/reference check, medical evaluation, and urinalysis drug test before appointment.
