Overview
University of Toledo Physicians is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma Surgery, at the University of Toledo Medical Center, a level 2 trauma center. This position primarily involves providing in-house call coverage for the Trauma, Surgical ICU, General Surgery, and Vascular Surgery services. The schedule includes 9 months of day shift coverage (6:30 AM to 6:30 PM) interchangeable with 3 months of night shift coverage (6:30 PM to 6:30 AM), and will involve weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
Respond to level II and level I trauma activations, conduct emergent consultations for trauma, general surgery, and vascular surgery.
Admit the trauma and surgical patients requiring inpatient care.
Perform bedside procedures such as suturing, I&D, line placement, chest tube placement, and assist in the operating room as needed.
Address urgent floor calls and coordinate care with the attending physician on duty.
Precept/educate students rotating on service as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Minimum qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Program; master’s or doctorate degree in appropriate field.
Certifications/Licensure
Ohio Board of Nursing Licensure for Nurse Practitioners/Advanced Practice Nurses or Ohio State Medical Board Licensure for Physician Assistants.
National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
Eligible to obtain and/or maintain Certificate to Prescribe/DEA.
Minimum of 1 year inpatient care in the past 24 months or Acute Care Certification preferred.
BLS certification and ATLS certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Working Conditions
Must be able to work flexible hours, shifts, holidays and weekends.
Must tolerate a busy environment with interaction with patients and families, employees, students, residents, and physicians.
Requires prolonged walking and standing; occasional lifting of patients sometimes over 200 pounds; occasional carrying of items up to 30 pounds.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and manual dexterity.
Requires ability to operate various office equipment (PCs, fax, copiers, telephones).
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment daily.
Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers in stressful situations.
