Overview
The EHS Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing Empirical Foods’ environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, assisting with safety training, investigating incidents, monitoring workplace conditions, and promoting a culture of safety across all levels of the organization by actively identifying and mitigating potential hazards. Responsibilities
Ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations to maintain a safe work environment. Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement. Create and uphold comprehensive EHS documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and safety standards. Promptly investigate all workplace injuries, near misses, property damage, and safety concerns to determine root causes, partner with necessary parties to implement corrective actions, and prevent future occurrences. Conduct regular inspections of facilities and work areas to identify potential hazards and non‑compliance issues. Monitor safety equipment and ensure proper maintenance and functionality. Lead environmental programs to proactively manage waste, monitor air and water quality, and handle chemicals responsibly to reduce environmental impact. Monitor environmental impact and implement strategies to minimize pollution. Cultivate a positive safety culture by actively involving employees in safety initiatives to promote a safe work environment. Communicate safety policies and procedures clearly to all employees. Encourage open communication regarding safety concerns. Partner with the Training Department to develop and enhance safety and environmental training materials. Conduct authorized training sessions as needed for specialized training such as Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, and Powered Industrial Vehicles. Manage on‑site contractors’ safety‑performance and compliance. Conduct periodic documented audits of on‑site contractor work. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Proficient in conducting thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards. Certified Professional (CSP) or other relevant EHS certifications preferred. Conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency in computer and Microsoft applications. Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred. Demonstrated Competencies
Strong understanding of EHS regulations and compliance requirements. Understanding of industrial environmental programs – SWPPP, SPCC plan, hazardous waste regulations, NPDES permits. Demonstrated leadership skills in cultivating a safety‑first culture throughout the organization. Analytical skills to investigate incidents and identify root causes. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and interact with employees at all levels. Must have regular and punctual attendance. Physical Requirements
This position requires walking, standing, twisting, reaching, bending, climbing, and lifting. Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 60 lbs. Experience
Minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing or industrial management safety role. Education
Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline preferred. Benefits
